The general movement of low-pressure centers across the United States is from  West to east

Temperatures in the US are cooler than they are nearer to the equator, so air pressure is moderate than it is in the tropics. Because wind flows table clockwise nearby low pressure, winds normally blow from west to east, shifting weather operations to the east.
