A rose garden is designed by joining a rectangle and a semicircle, as shown below. The rectangle is 24ft long and 18ft wide. If the gardener wants to build a fence around the garden, how many feet of fence are required?

Without the semicircle the perimeter would be 84 ft 

Because you would add:
24 + 24 + 18 + 18 = 84ft

If you multiplied 18 by 24 you'd get area not perimeter.
