Among African-American women, it becomes difficult to find a male who is of similar status because of the marriage gradient. There are relatively fewer well-educated African-American males than there are males of other ethnicities due to the higher number of African-American males incarcerated for various reasons. This makes it tougher to meet and build a relationship with someone of like status.
