Fordson High School hosted a math competition. A student completed the following proof and the question was marked in correct. Identify and correct the students mistake(s)
I know that these are the mistakes
One- that (2x-5)+3x = (-5+2x)+3x is communative property of addition
And two- that -5+x(2+3) =x(2+3)-5 is accociative property of addition. What are the actual properties?
What makes it incorrect is the wrong match of the properties. The correct answer is actually the opposite. The first expression is a manifestation of associative property while the second expression is a manifestation of commutative property.
Commutative property is the arrangement of order of algebraic terms. Associative property is the arrangement of order within a grouped quantity.
