The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) most notably targeted potential communist sympathizers during the 1950s. One famous result was the development of the Black List in Hollywood made up of directors and screenwriters deemed communists by the committee.

The House Un-American Activities Committee was a investigative commitee of the United States House of Representatives created in 1938 seeking to investigate  alleged disloyalty as well as private citizens and public employee's subversive activities.
