The world long jump record is 8.95 m (Mike Powell, USA, 1991). Treated as a projectile, what is the maximum range obtainable by a person if he has a take-off speed of 9.5 m/s?

Respuesta :

since the motion is considered as a projectile
the main formula of the range is
R= V²o sin²2α /g

the value of R is maximum when  α= Pi /4   (or 45°)
so the value of
Rmax= V²o sin²2Pi/4 /g = 9.5² * 1 / 9.8 =9.2 m

Rmax= 9.2 m
