Function:

What are dendritic cells?
- Antigen-presenting cells (APCs) known as dendritic cells (DCs) have a crucial function in the adaptive immune system.
- Since antigen presentation is DCs' main job, the cells are sometimes referred to as "professional" APCs.
- Because they grow branched extensions called "dendrites" to increase their surface area and improve exposure to antigens throughout development, dendritic cells get their name.
