What is Voluntary Response?
A voluntary response sample is one that is made up of people who have willingly decided to be a part of the sample group. Participants in a voluntary response sample frequently respond to surveys because they have strong feelings about the subject of the question. This is why voluntary response samples produce considerably biased results, because the majority of those who participate have a strong opinion about a topic in either direction. Another reason people engage is the ease with which they can join the survey. Voluntary response sampling is a sort of non-probability sampling approach because participants are self-selected rather than chosen at random by the researcher.
