First we need to know how many gallons the cylinder can hold, to determine this we use the rule of three:

[tex]\begin{gathered} 231\text{ cubic inches}\rightarrow1\text{ gallon} \\ 5775\text{ cubic inches}\rightarrow x \end{gathered}[/tex]

then:

[tex]x=\frac{5775\cdot1}{231}=25[/tex]

Hence the cylinder can hold 25 gallons of water.

We know that every day it leaks 2 gallons of water, using the rule of three again we have:

[tex]\begin{gathered} 1\text{ day}\rightarrow2\text{ gallons} \\ x\rightarrow25\text{ gallons} \end{gathered}[/tex]

then:

[tex]x=\frac{25\cdot1}{2}=\frac{25}{2}=12.5[/tex]

Therefore it will take 12.5 days to fill the cylinider
