The theory of Muller's Ratchet was proposed by the American geneticist Hermann Joseph Muller.

In his theory Muller predicts that in asexual populations occurs an accumulation of irreversible mutations called deleterious mutations, are mutations that increase the organism's suceptibility to a desease.

The reason why this occurs is that it is an absence of recombination the offspring will inherit its parents mutational load and could have even more. As a result with each generation they accumulate.

This theory was used to explain why sexual reproduction may be better than asexual reproduction, because organisms that reproduce sexually go through recombination and this has a probability of eliminating the deleterious mutations.
