Hongyao has a phobia of wasps due to preparedness, or the predisposition to learn some associations more readily than others.

Hongyao's case is of classical conditioning. Classical conditioning was propounded by Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov. It is a kind of automatic learning. In classical conditioning, an unconditioned stimulus in association with a neutral stimulus generates a conditioned response.

Ivan Pavlov experimented with classical conditioning on a dog. In step one, the dog saw the food and started salivating. Here the stimulus and response are unconditioned. In step two Pavlov rang a bell and the dog did not respond. Bell is a neutral stimulus here.

In the third step, he rang the bell and put a bowl of food in front. He noticed that the dog came and started salivating. He repeated this conditioning a few times.

He created conditioned stimulus by the sound of the bell without keeping food there. The sound of the bell made the dog salivate without even seeing the food. Therefore, a conditioned stimulus will generate response a conditioned response.

In Hongyao's case, we can see that he could have been bitten by the wasp once. Here wasp has been a neutral stimulus earlier. It became a conditioned stimulus as it generates a response from Hongyao whenever he sees wasps.
