A contralateral stroke is one that affects the opposite sides of the brain. They occur at the same places on opposite sides of the brain. When such a stroke occurs, there will be a resultant memory loss. Contralateral stroke is also known to cause a perioperative stroke.

The latter form of stroke is one that arises due to hemorrhage, embolism, or thrombotic factors and its effects remain for up to one day. Aging and hypertension can cause this kind of stroke.
