Cross-site scripting refers to a vulnerability in web security where the attackers can make a user compromise with the interactions, he or she has, with certain vulnerable applications. Basically, these hackers can behave as the user himself, access the sites, the user normally accesses and then compromise with the data of the user.
In case the user has privileged access to a particular application, then the hacker might be able to gain full access of that application, from the user.
