When a pattern of behavior becomes widely accepted within a social institution and becomes taken for granted in society, it is referred to as an institutionalized norm.
Institutionalization is the process of implanting ideas (such as beliefs, norms, social roles, values, or behaviors) into an institution, social system, or society. They set standards of behavior and have a regulatory character.
Individual choices to pursue cultural goals are controlled and lead by norms. Institutionalized norms apply to people of a social system in agreement with their social status within the system. These codes of conduct go hand in hand with institutional values such as obedience, class respect, loyalty to unity, courage and responsibility.
In general, as part of cultural heritage, people learn which values fit into which roles. Relationships are usually direct and transparent. Many such values are the same criteria by which role performance is judged.
