ON YOUR OWN PROJECT:
Read the United States Constitution (pages #316-328). Make a list of the
rights guaranteed/protected by this document. Circlethree rights from
your list that you feel are most important. Write a three paragraph letter
to one of the Framers of the Constitution (see a list of their names on
page #322) explaining to him why you feel these rights are most
important and the ways they benefit you personally. Explain the
responsibilities and obligations you have as a citizen to protect your rights
and the rights of others. Your letter should be typed, written in formal
language and adhere to formal letter-writing conventions.

The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It forbids Congress from both promoting one religion over others and also restricting an individual’s religious practices. It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. It also guarantees the right of citizens to assemble peaceably and to petition their government.
