A nuclear fusion is the process in which two or more atomic nuclei join together, or "fuse", to form a single heavier nucleus. This is usually accompanied by the release or absorption of large quantities of energy. In stars the nuclear fusion reaction combines smaller nuclei with larger nuclei which creates a heavier element. In the sun, hydrogen nuclei undergoes a nuclear fusion that produces helium nuclei.
