Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet was a French bishop and theologian, known for his sermons. He was considered one of the best orators, and a master French stylist. He was a strong supporter of political and royal absolutism, and the divine right of the kings. He claimed that the kings received power from God. As such, he was a strong advocate of the struggle against Protestantism, even published the work "Exposition on the Doctrine of the Catholic Church on the Matters of Controversy", where he is addressing his point on the subject.
