For example 5 is a prime number and another number is a composite number. If your going to find the LCM or even GCF of it then you should know the definition of prime number.

A prime number is a number which can be divided by one and itself.

Now that you can 5 is a prime number so you can divide it by 1 or 5 itself. But ofcourse if you divide it by 1 the numbers going to be the same so incase of prime numbers you have to divide the number by itself. So for 5, to find its LCM you will divide it by 5 which is 1. And for any other number, make sure if it gets divided by 5 or if not then just directly place the number below. If the composite number was 24 then its going to be 24 again since you cant divide it by 5 (this does not go with GCF though).

CAUTIONS: Make sure that your confirmed that the number is a prime number. If it is not a prime number and you mistakenly divide it directly, you can make a severe error in your answer incase the side number could be divided by a lower number other than the number you thought as prime. (High mistakes in GCF & LCM mostly)
