The War of 1812 drew different opinions from the Americans as:

  • Some supported it because it was a good chance to gain more territory in Canada
  • Some were against it because they believed the U.S. should be neutral and peaceful

The War of 1812 against the British was an excellent opportunity to invade Canada and gain territory there and so some Americans supported the war for that reason.

A lot of Americans, particularly the federalists, opposed the war as they believed that the Democratic-Republicans were going against the policies of peace and neutrality established by Washington.

The support that Americans had for the war that rose from the them wanting more territory would continue for decades more as the U.S. expanded across the continent.

In conclusion, the War of 1812 had both supporters and detractors but affected the U.S. drastically regardless.
