Describe Otto von Bismarck’s policy called realpolitik. How was realpolitik different from the way Maximilien Robespierre led during the French Revolution?

The concept of realpolitik was to implement politics in a practical and useful way. German minister Otto von Bismarck’s used this concept to make politics have a real application, not only as a theoretical or ideological concept. Chancellor Bismark considered that everything was possible using politics in a correct way.

Realpolitik was different from the way Maximilien Robespierre led during the French Revolution because Robespierre instilled a reign of terror in France.

So different than Bismark, who, for instance, after the Prussian-Austria War, instead of punishing Austria or invading its territories, he considered to negotiate and make Austria an ally that could be helpful in future confrontations against common enemies.

Basically, the Von Bismarck’s policy which is called realpolitik is also known as “pragmatism” and it is a way of making political decisions based on being practical rather than been based on ideals.

The policy of realpolitik was to adopted by Otto von Bismarck to implement politics in a practical and useful way.
