The denominators of the fractions are the same, therefore you can just subtract the numerators and you're done.
[tex]\frac{5}{10} -\frac{3}{10} =\frac{2}{10}=\frac{1}{5}[/tex]
If you had different denominators, you would have to multiply one or both of the equation by a common factor to get the denominators to be the same.
For example, if you have [tex]\frac{4}{25} -\frac{1}{5}[/tex], you would multiply the second equation by a number that makes its denominator 25. 5 times 5 is 25, so:
[tex]=\frac{4}{25} -(\frac{1}{5} *\frac{5}{5} )\\=\frac{4}{25} -\frac{5}{25} \\=-\frac{1}{25}[/tex]
[tex]\frac{1}{5}[/tex]
