Brown v. Board of Education (1954) was one of the most important achievements of the civil rights movement. The case was argued by the NAACP's chief counsel, Thurgood Marshall.
This ruling established that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. It also argued that, claiming that schools were "separate but equal" was impossible, as separation was inherently unequal.
