From a barrel of colored marbles, you randomly select 1 blue, 2 yellow, 7 red, 6 green, and 2 purple marbles. Find the experimental probability of randomly selecting a marble that is NOT yellow.
A.)11/18
B.)7/9
C.)9/10
D.)8/9

Respuesta :

Option D

The probability of randomly selecting a marble that is NOT yellow is [tex]\frac{8}{9}[/tex]

Solution:

Given that , From a barrel of colored marbles, you randomly select 1 blue, 2 yellow, 7 red, 6 green, and 2 purple marbles.

[tex]\text { Probability of an event }=\frac{\text { number of favourable outcomes }}{\text { total possible outcomes }}[/tex]

Total possible outcomes = 1 blue + 2 yellow + 7 red + 6 green + 2 purple marbles = 18 marbles

So, for the event of picking a non yellow marble, we have to avoid yellow marble

Number of favourable outcomes = 1 blue + 7 red + 6 green + 2 purple marbles = 16 marbles

[tex]\text { Probability }=\frac{16}{18}=\frac{8}{9}[/tex]

So, the probability for not picking yellow marble is [tex]\frac{8}{9}[/tex] So option D is correct.
