Respuesta :
Deposition from flow into a lake or an ocean
A delta is a feature of a river that occurs at its mouth whereby the river tends to drains into a water body (ocean or lake) through several drainages.
Explanation:
As a river approaches and drains into a water body, like a lake or ocean, it deposits a lot of sediments that it collected upstream. The high gradient upstream gives the river a high energy flow enabling it to have high erosion power and it can carry lots of sediments. The geographical gradient lowers closer to the mouth of the river and much of the sediments settle down due to the low speed and energy of the river flow at this stage. Over years, the sediment accumulates over a large area and the river has to find several channels to drain into the ocean or lake. This forms a delta.
