The Missouri crisis was seen as a big problematic area in American politics. People predicted that this was going to explode in a civil war. The African Americans knew that they can’t rely on the whites to end slavery. They also realize that the divide between south and north and the battle over the expansion of western would be the key to open opportunities for the blacks to exploit.
