Cassius's wish to remain at Sardis and battle the forces of Marc Antony and Octavius there, rather than at Philippi, demonstrate the impression that he did not want to risk his army to lose a single fight and that he was thinking about his soldiers. He wanted that his soldiers are in good condition to fight a heavy battle rather than risking their lives with little preparedness. However, it also implies his cowardice and fear of being captured because of losing the battle.
