On a map drawn to scale 1/2 inch =200 miles, what is the distance in miles between two cities that are 3*1/2 inches apart on the map?

There are 7 one-halves in 3 1/2, so multiply 200 by 7:

Hence the distance between 2 cities = 7 × 200 = 1400 miles
