The founding fathers gathered in what is known as the Philadelphia convention in 1787. The delegates present knew that the discussion would be long and with many obstacles. They were trying to unify the states after the civil war.
The discussions were tense and difficult on every subject to be included. They needed the approval of 9 of the 13 states delegates.
Finally, the delegates signed the new Constitution on September 17, 1787.
