Following strategy can be used to separate the mixture containing sand, pebbles, iron fillings , sugar , tooth picks and chalk powder.
Step 1: HAND PICKING: Herein, the pebbles and tooth picks can be separated by hand-picking method.
Step 2: MAGNETIC SEPARATION: Herein, iron fillings are separated, as they are attracted towards magnet.
Step 3: Dissolution and Filtration: Water is added to sand, sugar and chalk powder. Sugar will dissolved, but sand and chalk and sand are insoluble in water.
Step 4: Sedimentation and Decantentation: Sand will settle down in water, hence, can be removed via sedimentation and decantentation.
Step 5: Filtration: Chalk powder is insoluble in water, hence it can be removed by filtration method.
Step 6: Crystallization: Sugar can be separated from solution by crystallization.
